Sergeant Justin R. Johnson is a native of Hobe Sound, Florida. He enlisted in the United States Army July 20, 2006. SGT Johnson attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia where he received his MOS training to become a Cargo Specialist (88H).
SGT Johnson’s assignments included: 119th Inland Cargo Transfer Company, Fort Story, VA; 241st Seaport Operations Company, Fort Story, VA and in the 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA.
SGT Johnson had deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (September 2008-August 2009); Operation United Response (January 2010 – March 2010) and most recently Operation Enduring Freedom (2012-2013) where he served as a Mission Commander for the Night-Riders’ Convoy Escort Team.
His military education included: Cargo Specialist Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Combat Lifesavers Course, HAZMAT Course, Maxx Pro/MRAP Operators Course.
During his tenure in the United States Army, SGT Johnson was awarded the following awards and decorations: The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with one OLC, Army Good Conduct Medal with one knot, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, NATO ISAF Medal, and Drivers/Mechanics Badge.
SGT Johnson is survived by his mother and grandmother, Sonia Randolf and Mollie S. Scott of Hobe Sound, Florida; his son, Justin R. Johnson Jr; as well as his fiancée and step-daughter, Shakia Williams and Shamya Williams.
